Hello. I enjoyed this and completely understand and can relate. The first sentence is so true "We see youth like we see race, as a whole as opposed to the individual. Youth are characterized as words like, defiant, awkward, and immature." For many years going to school were there was hundreds of white kids verses a handful of black kids, in one way or another I was consider the black girl not Jessica. I was even asked during a lesson by the teacher "doe talking about slavery bother you." Some people just shouldn't be educators.
